Two-vehicle crash in heavy fog

State police at Lehighton reported investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 8:50 a.m. June 3 at the intersection of Route 903 and Maury Road in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers noted the crash occurred in heavy fog.

Troopers said Katie E. Pielmeier, 21, of Palmerton, was driving a 2008 BMW X3 and stopped on Maury Road. She then attempted a left turn onto 903 while Kim M. Yocum, 59, of Jim Thorpe, was northbound operating a 2004 Nissan Murano. Halfway through the intersection the BMW was struck on the driver's side by the front of the Nissan.

Yocum was injured and taken to the Lehighton hospital by Lehighton ambulance. Pielmeier was not injured. The Nissan was towed from the scene.

Troopers said Pielmeier was cited.
