Blood drive

The FBLA and the American Red Cross will have a blood drive at Pleasant Valley on Friday.

Bingo held

The West End Park and Open Space Commission will a host bingo night beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Included will be specials, pull tabs, door prizes and refreshments.

Pantry open

The West End Food pantry at the Eldred Township Community Center will have a food distribution from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

On Mondays at noon, the center offers acoustic jam sessions led by Carey and friends. All skill levels and listeners welcome.

Bird feeders

The West End Park and Open Space Commission will host a free Make Pine Cone Bird Feeders program at the Chestnuthill Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Participants will get everything needed to make a bird feeder to hang and watch the birds enjoy a snack.

Eldred pantry

The West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown, Eldred Township, will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Family fun

Western Pocono Community Library will be holding a Saturday Family Fun Time every Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. This program is open to families of all ages. There will be stories, songs, games and crafts. For more information contact the library at 570-992-7934.

LAMA meets

The Latin American Motorcycle Association Pocono Chapter will meet at 10 a.m. Sunday at the American Legion Post home in Gilbert for its monthly meeting.

Practice begins

Effort UMC will hold an Easter Children’s pageant at the 11 a.m. service on Palm Sunday.

For all church children who are interested in being part of this Easter pageant, the practice begins this Sunday at 10:15 a.m. in the youth room.

Vows renewal

The West End Home Association is hosting a wedding vows renewal ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Legion Post home in Gilbert.

The Rev. Bishop James Mills will preside. A small donation to the West End Home Association will be appreciated.

Those planning to participate are asked to sign up at the Post Home. Certificates will be provided.

Presidents Day

Monday is Presidents Day and various entities may be closed. The Pleasant Valley schools will be open as it is a snow makeup day for Jan. 17.

Diversity group

The Pleasant Valley School District Diversity Task Force will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Chestnuthill meetings

The Chestnuthill Township Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the municipal building in Brodheadsville.

The Planning Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, also at the municipal building.

PTSD Support

The PTSD Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post home in Gilbert.

It will include Vets UnStoppable Peer-to-Peer PTSD Support Group. Non-Post member Veterans are welcome.

Youth event

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is planning a youth event for Feb. 21 that is open to eighth- through 12th-graders.

The church is hosting the Urbane Choir. Admission is free.

Free supper

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will once again host a free community supper.

It is set for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21.

RSVPs are appreciated but not necessary.

Milestones celebrated

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, has some celebrated wedding anniversary milestones. So recognized are: Ray and Bernie Oldroyd, 50 years; Dennis and Eleanor Glowacki, 50 years; Michael and Paolina Lindner, 25 years; Ken and Joyce Rommel, 50 years; Tom and Catherine Pressey, 57 years; Tom and Kathy Keller, 25 years; Jim and Nancy Matsko, 58 years; and James and Diane Leitch, 25 years.

PVEN fundraiser

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, will host a spaghetti dinner and basket auction event to benefit the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network’s new building on Feb. 24.

Dinner will be from 5 to 8 p.m. The basket auction features gifts donated by local churches and businesses.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or from a board member.

Roof repair

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity has only five remaining partner opportunities for the 2017-18 fiscal year roof repair program.

If one’s roof is suffering from leaks, old shingles, rotten plywood, or bad gutters one can possibly partner with Habitat for those needed repairs.

Habitat is currently running a special of 25 percent discount off its best estimated cost of all roof repairs. Plus, all qualified Habitat Partner Families have the option of interest-free repayment plans for up to four years.

The West End Park and Open Space Commission is again offering two $2,000 scholarships in honor of the late David Fleetwood.
