3 to 6 inches of snow expected Saturday night
The milder weather the past few days will soon give way to colder temperatures, which in turn will yield several inches of snow Saturday afternoon into the evening.
A winter storm watch is in effect from Saturday evening through late Saturday night, with the potential for 3 to 6 inches of snow falling across Carbon County.
Temperatures today are expected to reach just the lower 40s for a high, before turning colder with lows tonight in the upper teens to lower 20s, according to Paul Walker, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather.
Walker said Saturday will start off with some sun, before the clouds begin to increase.
“It will be a pretty quick-moving storm,” Walker said. “It will start late in the afternoon, toward dinner time, and continue off and on into tomorrow night.”
Walker said between 3 to 6 inches of snow will fall across Carbon County.
He said that initially as the snow starts, temperatures will get into the mid and upper 30s.
“Things will get slippery, people should be cautious,” he said. “They could find some slick spots, could get snow-packed for a time, especially secondary roads.”
Despite the milder temperatures much of this week, Walker said Saturday’s forecast doesn’t come as a surprise.
“This is pretty much what we’ve been looking at for much of the past week, pretty much what we were expecting,” he said. “It’s not uncommon to get these swings in February.
Walker said once the snow moves out, it will turn milder, with temperatures into the mid-40s both Sunday and Monday.
After that, he said milder temperatures will return, with temperatures in the mid-60s on Tuesday, and lower 60s in Wednesday.
That will be followed by more seasonable weather by the end of next week, Walker said.
He said normal highs this time of year are typically in the lower 40s.
