Education board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in Brodheadsville.

Fish dinner

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is having a fish dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

More anniversaries

Our Lady Queen of Peace, Gilbert, has announced more wedding anniversary couples celebrating milestones.

They are: Rose and Tony Fugazzi, 66 years; Joe and Joan Gaiotti, 60 years; John and Shirley Onderko, 60 years; Tony and Anna DeMatteo, 57 years; and Matt and Karen Hnatowicz 25 years.

Children’s reading

The Eldred Township Community Center will hold a children’s reading session from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Attendees will join with former Eldred Elementary School reading teacher Mr. Sauers for a light and informal children’s reading session.

Effort pantry

The pantry outreach of Effort UMC, also known as the Supplemental Food Resource Center, will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church. A valid driver’s license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is needed to make use of the pantry in case of an emergency or urgent need.

Post cleanup

Post 927, American Legion in Gilbert, has designated this Saturday as cleanup day, beginning at 10 a.m. Volunteers are asked to sign up at the post to lend a hand. No experience is necessary. Organizers say they will provide the training.

Movie time

The Western Pocono Community is showing family friendly movies in the community room of the library at 1 p.m. every Saturday. Popcorn and water are available for purchase. Children under 10 years must be accompanied by an adult. For more information, call the library at 570-992-7934.

Driver safety

A SMART DRIVER four-hour refresher/defensive driving course, designed for qualified drivers 50 and older, will be given Saturday in Brodheadsville at the Chestnuthill Park Building.

The four-hour class is only open to those who provide evidence of taking a class during the past 36 months.

The eight-hour class will be done in two four-hour sessions on March 3 and March 10.

PVEN fundraiser

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, will host a spaghetti dinner and basket auction event to benefit the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network’s new building on Saturday.

Dinner will be from 5 to 8 p.m. The basket auction features gifts donated by local churches and businesses.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or from a board member.

Polk Supervisors

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the municipal building in Kresgeville.

Unity Night

The Night of Unity at Pleasant Valley High School on Tuesday will run from 6 to 8 p.m. The snow date is Feb. 28.

Republican Club

The West End Republican Club, which meets regularly on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Lakeside Restaurant, 5154 S. Hamilton Blvd., Saylorsburg, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Republican minded citizens are encouraged to join the group to socialize, listen, discuss and learn.

Those wishing to eat before the meeting are asked to arrive by 6 p.m.

Special fundraiser

Effort UMC is holding a potato soup and Irish soda bread fundraiser. Orders are being taken for potato soup and a small loaf of homemade Irish soda bread until March 11.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet will be plying their various needles on Tuesday, beginning at 1 p.m.

Newcomers are welcome.

Crayon time

The coloring program Sharpen Your Crayons will continue every Wednesdays at 6 p.m. This program is free and open to all ages. New coloring projects are available each week. For more information contact the library at 570-992-7934.

Clothing needs

The PVEN needs new ladies underwear (all sizes), boys size 5, 16, 18-20 long-sleeve shirts, pants and pajamas, men and women’s deodorant, shaving cream and razors, sheets, blankets and towels, all good condition.

Donations can be taken to a cooperating church or directly to the PVEN from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and at other times by appointment.

PVEN is located at the corner of McIlhaney Road and Greenview Drive in Brodheadsville, near the Chestnuthill Diner.

Fly fishing

The Pohoqualine Fish Association in cooperation with Pocono Heritage Land Trust and Chestnuthill and Jackson townships is offering half-day fly fishing permits to residents of those two township only.

Residents can contact their respective townships at 570-992-9733 or 570-629-0153. Applicants must provide proof of residency, photo ID and a valid PA fishing license with applicable stamps.

Chalk talk

Mrs. Bush’s Personal Care Home in Kunkletown is presenting Snyder Chalk Talk which illustrates a biblical message before your eyes which is based on Matthew 10:29-31.

Mission auction

Effort UMC’s yearly Missions Outreach auction has been announced. The auction supports local, national and international missions. It will be held at 6 p.m. April 7.

Bus trip

The West End Park and Open Space Commission is sponsoring a bus trip to see “Escape to Margaritaville,” a musical comedy, at the Marquis Theatre in New York City on May 19.

The bus leaves Chestnuthill Park at 8 a.m. Showtime is at 2 p.m. The bus leaves there at 5 p.m. and returns at 7 p.m.

Poker run

Operation: Touch of Home will be having its second Poker Run on April 22, sponsored by the American Legion Riders Chapter 927. Another tricky tray will be held at the event to help the group raise funds to ship its care packages to deployed troops overseas. Donations for the tricky tray are needed.
