Woman given prison term for fleeing police
A Carbon County woman was sentenced to a county prison term on Monday after pleading guilty to a charge of fleeing or attempting to elude police and a charge of attempted theft by deception.
Tracey Ann Hontz, 47, of Palmerton, entered the pleas before Judge Steven R. Serfass. She was charged for the fleeing count on Aug. 25, 2016, when Palmerton police attempted to stop her along Franklin Avenue. Police knew her license was under suspension. She eventually stopped and was taken into custody.
The theft count stems from an incident on April 7, 2017, when she attempted to take money out of the checking account of a Palmerton resident.
Hontz is currently an inmate in the county prison serving a probation violation sentence which runs out later this week.
On the fleeing charge Serfass sentenced her to serve one to 12 months in the prison, and on the theft count serve 24 months probation, with the terms running consecutively.
She was also ordered to supply a DNA sample, render a total of 150 hours of community service and make restitution in the theft incident of $92.50.
She will serve the jail term on consecutive two-day weekends beginning at 10 a.m. March 24.
