The building at 525 Iron St., Lehighton, formerly occupied by the Lehighton Furniture Company, has been chosen as the site for Lehighton’s new industry.
Congressman Francis E. Walter revealed that Army Ordnance advised him the Action Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia has leased the building.
The firm has been awarded an Army Ordnance Department contract of $2,268,397 to manufacture fuses for artillery ammunition with the stipulation that the firm would locate in the Lehighton. Walter had appealed directly to the White House in this matter, citing the unemployment inn this distressed area.
The new industry hopes to provide 80 new jobs.
