JT polling place changed to Marion Hose Co.
Jim Thorpe voters who used Phoenix Fire Company will now cast their votes at a new polling place come May.
On Thursday, the Carbon County Commissioners voted to change the District 17 fourth ward polling place from the Phoenix Fire Company to the Marion Hose Company 16 W. Broadway.
The move comes after Jim Thorpe consolidated its fire companies last year, moving Phoenix to Fairview Hose Company.
Marion Hose Company is now a bar, but the commissioners said that won’t be a problem on Election Day.
Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that the establishment will be closed on Election Day because of a rule that states any bar that also is a polling place cannot operate during the election.
Commissioner William O’Gurek said the county has other polling places that are also bars and operate without a problem during elections. He used the Summit Hill American Legion as an example, which closes its bar to patrons while elections take place.
