Scholastic Roundup: Results from March 29

Northwestern and Tamaqua split their games on the diamond Thursday.

The Tigers won the baseball contest, while the Blue Raiders were victorious in softball.

BASEBALL

Northwestern-Tamaqua

Trevor Schreiner had two hits and knocked in three runs to help Northwestern post an 8-1 non-league victory over Tamaqua.

The contest was originally scheduled to be played at Tamaqua, but was moved to Northwestern because of poor field conditions.

Derek Holmes also knocked in three runs for the Tigers (3-0), while Tyler Wiik and Jacob Haas both finished with two hits.

Vincent Castrine tossed six innings to earn the pitching win.

For the Blue Raiders (1-1), Nate Boyle accounted for his team’s only run with a sixth-inning homer.

SOFTBALL

Northwestern-Tamaqua

Miranda Chinchar had three hits and knocked in two runs to help Tamaqua gain an 8-3 non-league win over Northwestern.

The Blue Raiders (2-0) were the home team on the scoreboard, although the contest was played in New Tripoli due to poor field conditions at Tamaqua.

Jada Schellhammer went the distance in the circle, allowing just one walk while striking out 10. She also had a hit and walked three times.

Jen Frederickson and Kaitlyn Stauffenberg each added a hit, run and RBI, while Courtney Hoffman collected her 100th career hit.

For the Tigers (2-1), Emily Akelaitis had three hits, one a double, and knocked in a run. Anna Akelaitis finished with a hit and two runs scored.

Wyomissing-Marian

Marian used a nine-run fourth inning to help gain an 11-1 non-league win over Wyomissing on Wednesday.

Lacey Blasko led the attack with two hits, two RBIs and three stolen bases.

The Fillies (2-0) also received a pair of hits and two RBIs from Emily Shaud, while Mia Nemeth contributed a double and knocked in a pair of runs.

Lyndsey Reinoel gained the pitching win, striking out nine batters.
