Nesquehoning changes streets, addresses
Stock Street in Nesquehoning will soon have a new starting location.
This week, borough council approved a motion to change a portion of Stock Street (Route 54) between the three-point intersection at the west end of town and Park Avenue in the estates portion of the borough because of issues that arose with regard to numbering of buildings for addresses in that section of roadway.
Council President David Hawk explained that council discussed options with house numbering and realized that there would be an issue since homes along Stock Street in the estates begin in the teens.
“The numbers begin at such low numbers that there are not enough numbers to cover the area between the (veterans) monument (at the three-point intersection connecting Market, Catawissa and Stock streets) to Park Avenue without impacting the numbers from there,” Hawk said.
He said they looked at increasing the numbers of the homes from the estates moving west, for example, 30 would become 3000, but the option was rejected because of the impact it would have on the homeowners.
“What we decided that made the most sense with the least impact was to redesignate Stock Street as beginning at Park Avenue and continuing west,” Hawk added. “That way anything west of Park wouldn’t have any changes so it wouldn’t affect anyone in the estates or village.”
The area between Market Street and Park Avenue will now become an extension of West Catawissa Street and buildings along that road that currently use a Stock Street address would be renumbered for a Catawissa Street address.
Hawk said that the change will mainly affect the Kovatch Ford building and the gas station. The Rev Group buildings have addresses for 911 purposes but all use an Industrial Complex address for mailing purposes, and Ametek uses a Mountain Avenue address.
“This seemed like the solution that would have the least impact for everyone involved,” Hawk said.
Stock Street will now run from Park Avenue west to the Schuylkill County line.
