Pedestrian bridge completion date delayed
Hikers and bikers looking forward to walking over the Lehigh River in Jim Thorpe using the new pedestrian bridge will have to wait a little while longer.
On Thursday, the Carbon County commissioners voted to ratify a time extension from Latona Trucking of Pittston, the company hired to complete the construction of the 250-foot, $3.2 million steel truss bridge that will connect another portion of the Delaware and Lehigh Nature Trail. The extension changes the completion date for the project to June 22.
Initially, the tentative dedication of the bridge was slated for June 11.
The time extension, which replaced a previous extension that was granted last November, is due to additional work that must be completed.
