Art exhibit
A new art exhibit opens tonight at the Tamaqua Community Art Center.
Tommy DeWald is the featured artist. Much of his early work was inspired by “sacred geometry.”
Since 2015, his work has been inspired by that time between waking and sleeping consciousness.
DeWald will be available for a meet and greet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The art center is located at 125 Pine St.
Active shooter
In light of recent events throughout the country, there has been a lot of talk about what to do in the event of an active shooter situation in public places.
An active shooter training seminar has been organized for April 7 in Tamaqua. The event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St. The seminar is open to the public, ages 12 and up.
It will be presented by members of the Pennsylvania State Police as well as officers from the Tamaqua and Rush Township police departments.
Parking is available at the rear of the church.
St. Peter’s Union
The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville. The service will include a congregational meeting. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the junior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m., Confirmation class meets at 11:15 a.m., Boy and Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., called to care committee meets at 6 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m., senior choir rehearsal at 7 p.m.
Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.
Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, fundraising committee meets at 6:30 p.m., preschool board meets at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, Bible study at 12:30 p.m., OWLS meet at noon.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday’s 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Also on Sunday, bells will meet at 8 a.m. and perform on the ACS Telethon at 12:15 p.m.; Confirmation and Sunday school classes meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, church council meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m. and the chancel choir practices at 7:30 p.m.
