The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its annual dinner celebrating the Citizen and Business Person of the Year. The event will be held April 26 at the Mountain Valley Golf Course in Barnesville. Reservations are now being accepted.

Earlier this year, the chamber elected new officers and added five new members to its executive board, selecting Jennifer Drake as president, Ben Turrano as vice president, Rich Shupp as treasurer and Mary Linkevich as secretary.

“I’m honored to lead this volunteer board and appreciate their commitment to our community and its prosperity. Together, we look forward to a busy 2018,” says chamber President Jennifer Drake.

The chamber organizes and helps with a variety of community events throughout the year including the popular Summer Concert Series at the Tamaqua Train Station, the new Tamaqua Remembers initiative to honor the 150th celebration of Memorial Day, the Hometown Heroes banner program, the Annual Community Yard Sale, and a regular schedule of workshops and mixers.

A new tourism committee is focused on attracting visitors to the downtown area and all members of the community are welcome to participate in the effort.

In addition to the annual dinner, upcoming events include: a community day at Owl Creek Reservoir on May 19 and a new option for chamber members to purchase and hang coordinating “open” flags outside their business.

For more information about chamber events, or to join as a member, call the chamber office at 570-668-1880, or email chamber@tamaqua.net.
