Carbon man gets prison term for theft by deception
A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term on Monday in the county court after admitting he bilked a Lehighton couple out of money.
Brian Neff, 62, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of theft by deception-false impression before Judge Steven R. Serfass and was immediately sentenced to serve three to one day less 24 months in prison.
Lehighton police charged that Neff took $450 from a borough couple after signing an agreement to do work in their home. Police contacted Neff and gave him time to do the work or return the money; he did neither. Police made contact three times with Neff to settle the issue before filing the charges.
Neff, who began the jail term immediately, was also ordered to make restitution of $450 to the victims, render 100 hours of community service when paroled, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
