Girardville to hold 15th Annual Irish Day Parade on April 14
The Girardville Irish Day Parade Committee announces that the rescheduled 15th Annual Parade is set for April 14. The parade will commence promptly at noon.
All organizations including volunteer fire companies and civic groups can still register for the 2018 parade by calling Donald Dudash at 570-874-2455 or online at www.girardvilleirishparade.com.
The giant parade features five divisions and numerous Irish and traditional bands including five bagpipe bands. Marching units from as far away as Pittsburgh are participating.
Additional floats, antique vehicles, fire companies and special entries will supplement each division. The theme of this year’s parade is the “Salute to the Residents of Girardville,” and the grand marshal for the 2018 parade is former Congressman Timothy Holden.
Also joining the parade for the first time is Congressman Lou Barletta of Hazleton.
Parade day activities begin at 10 a.m. with an Irish Mass at Saint Vincent’s Worship Center at Second and C streets in Girardville. An outdoor celebration will follow the parade at the Hibernian House at Beech and Line Streets in the borough.
Food and novelty vendors will be featured throughout the community.
Parade participants are reminded that registration will be held beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Girardville Borough Hall located on Fourth Street. Parade vendors may pick up their permits at borough hall as well.
