Schuylkill awards courthouse roof project

A Northumberland County company has won the job of installing a new rubber roof on the Schuylkill County courthouse annex.

County commissioners on Wednesday awarded the job to Budget Roofing, Shamokin, submitted the lowest of four bids, $168,951.

The other companies are bids were Houck Services, Linglestown, Dauphin County, which bid $270,400; TRS Roofing, Williamsburg, Blair County, $311,400; and Spotts Brothers, Schuylkill Haven, $218,460.

The project will be paid from budgeted capital project funds.

The roof has been leaking, primarily over the office of Judge John E. Domalakes.

In other matters Wednesday, commissioners agreed to seek bids for University Drive road improvements.

Bids will be accepted in the controller’s office at the courthouse until 3 p.m. April 30.

They will be publicly opened at 9 a.m. May 2 in the commissioners’ board room, with a tentative award date of May 9.

University Drive is the road leading from Rout 61 to Penn State University’s Schuylkill Haven campus.

Commissioners also approved a $16,500 agreement between the county Emergency Management Agency and the East Central Task Force, with Collision Forensic Solutions, to provide the task force with law enforcement training.

In a related matter, commissioners approved a member of the EMA’s Incident Management Team, David Carichner, to attend all hazard logistics section trainings held in Fairfax County, Virginia, from April 30 to May 1, and from May 8 to 9.

All costs associated with the trainings, which includes lodging, travel and meals, are allocated through the Homeland Security Grant Program funding.

In other business, commissioners approved the appointment of James Dean, Andreas, to fill the unexpired term Roger Strohecker as a member of the county housing authority, effective April 11 through Dec. 31, 2019.

They also approved the appointment of John Shandor of St. Clair to fill the unexpired term of Ed Kleha as a member of the county housing authority, effective April 11 through Dec. 31, 2020.

Commissioners also approved the appointments of Robert S. Carl Jr. of Orwigsburg and Mike McCord of St. Clair to two-year terms on the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance board of directors.

Commissioners also approved the appointment of county Commissioners’ Chairman George F. Halcovage Jr., as an executive board member of NEPA.
