A look back: April 16, 1975
Carl A. Barry, borough manager of Tamaqua, since April 27, 1972, has informed council that he will not return to work.
Barry has been on health leave for several months. He did return to work for a period of time but had to return to health leave. Barry told council his doctor has advised him to give up the position.
He became the borough’s third manager after the stormy reign of Gardner Benson, who was fired by council in late 1971. Benson succeeded Marvin Miller, who was the borough’s first manager.
Council said Donald Matalavage will continue to serve as acting borough manager until council decided its next step.
