Tamaqua board discusses projects
With an eye toward the future, Tamaqua Area School District has set its sights on a trio of projects.
District business manager Connie Ligenza discussed the projects with the school board at its committee meeting last week.
Superintendent Ray Kinder said the projects are necessary.
“We do have some areas that are pretty severe,” Kinder said.
Projects that were discussed include the final phase of the roofing project at Tamaqua Area High School; upgrading the Tamaqua Elementary Communication System; and the driveway parking lot at Tamaqua Elementary.
The final phase of the roofing project at the high school is expected to cost about $543,000, per an estimate from the state contract.
While only an estimate at this point, the communication system at Tamaqua Elementary is expected to cost about $130,000.
Meanwhile, the district continues to gather information for the driveway parking lot at Tamaqua Elementary.
Ligenza noted that the district will likely require the assistance of an architect/construction manager when going out to bid for the larger projects.
She said she wasn’t sure if any of the projects could be completed in time for the start of next school year.
The district would utilize funds from its capital projects fund to pay for the projects, Kinder said.
