Palmerton man sentenced to state prison term on endangering count
A Palmerton man was sentenced to a state prison term on Tuesday in Carbon County court on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
Tyler Scott Grohotolski, 28, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve nine to 24 months in a state correctional institution.
Grohotolski previously admitted overdosing on illegal substances while his young daughter was in his residence.
He was arrested on Aug. 20, 2017, when Palmerton police responded to his residence on Mauch Chunk Road for a report of an overdose victim. On scene officers found Grohotolski on the kitchen floor of the residence in a fetal position, sweating profusely, indicating signs of a drug overdose.
Found in the living room of the home on a couch was Grohotolski’s 3-year-old daughter. There were two other adults in the home, who police said were the ones to call the communications center for help.
Police said Grohotolski overdosed on methamphetamine.
Nanovic also found Grohotoloski violated his parole in a DUI case when he was arrested on the endangering charge. Nanovic ordered Grohotoloski to serve out the maximum of his term which runs to Nov. 17, 2021. He was given credit for 201 days spent in jail on the charge.
He was also ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, supply a DNA sample and pay court costs of about $1,000.
