A look back: May 1, 1971
Harold Sthare, 219 N. Seventh St., Lehighton, a well-known area printer whose personal efforts and expense play a leading role in keeping the Carbon County Red Cross Blood Program in Priority 1, last night was selected as the Man of the Year for 1971 by the Carbon County Red Cross Chapter.
Sthare was especially cited for serving as chairman of the blood program for the past five years. In February, he was also awarded the chapter’s first 10-gallon donor pin.
He has gained recognition throughout the northeast Pennsylvania district for his unique recruitment efforts that have paid off handsomely in meeting established quotas, especially in his home community of Lehighton.
