Schuylkill County receives one bid for demolition work on human services building

Just one company wants the job of demolishing the interior of Schuylkill County’s former human services building to ready it for renovation.

Forrester Environmental Inc., Bloomsburg, submitted the sole bid of $58,950.

The bid was opened at a public meeting Wednesday. It will be reviewed before the job is expected to be awarded on May 9.

The demolition includes vinyl asbestos tile removal.

The human services building, at 410-420 N. Centre St., Pottsville, is the former home of the county Children & Youth Services Agency.

That agency was moved to a larger building, and the county is now renovating the human services building to house its mental health and drug and alcohol agencies and the office of District Judge James Reiley.

The project is being engineered by Y. Kim Architects, Pottsville.

The county in 2016 hired McClure Co., Harrisburg, for $832,540 to replace the windows, roof and air conditioning units.

The mental health and drug and alcohol agencies and district judge currently are in leased buildings. Moving them to the former human services building will save $100,000 a year, county Administrator Gary R. Bender has said.

In other matters Wednesday, commissioners opened bids for the improvement of University Drive in Schuylkill Haven. University Drive is the road leading from Route 61 to Penn State University’s Schuylkill Haven campus.

The bids were submitted by New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc., Leesport, Berks County, which submitted a base bid of $478,795; Schuylkill Paving Inc., Schuylkill Haven, $589,222; Pennsy Supply Inc., Pittston, Luzerne County, $571.607; Ronnie C. Folk Paving Inc., Shoemakersville, Berks County, $509,110; Lehigh Asphalt Paving & Construction, Tamaqua, $455,152; and H&K Group Inc., Skippack, Montgomery County, $466,056.

Commissioners expect to award the jobs on May 9.

The project will paid for with liquid fuels funds.
