United Way of Monroe County held its annual campaign appreciation event, Leading Together, Uniting Monroe on April 25 at Desaki Restaurant in Swiftwater to recognize those who have helped to raise money to help those in need in Monroe County.

“Trying to address the problems associated with poverty can only be achieved when we work together,” said President and CEO of United Way of Monroe County Michael Albert.

“From childhood hunger, to homelessness, to affordable quality child care, to connecting people with services available in our community, these are complex problems that cannot be solved by any single individual or organization.”

Last year, thanks to community donations, United Way and its partners helped more than 35,000 people in need in Monroe County.

This year, United Way surpassed its campaign goal: raising over $863,000 for partners as well as the agencies direct impact work.

“With several regional and state grants looking to bring additional funds into our community by the end of our fiscal year, this year’s revenue is projected to be the most it has been since 2010,” Albert said.

During the event, United Way of Monroe County recognized several organizations, companies and individuals for their contributions to United Way and to the community at large.
