Tamaqua man charged with assault

Published May 08. 2018 08:57AM

A Tamaqua man was charged with simple assault and harassment after an argument on April 15.

Police went to the 200 block of Clay Street at 5:12 a.m. after neighbors heard a woman calling for help. Officers found the victim sitting on the sidewalk bleeding heavily from the nose. She said she was hit by her boyfriend, Micah Zachary Vasquez, 32, of 306 Hazle St., who kicked her out of the Clay Street home.

She was transported to St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale for treatment.

Vasquez was questioned and said he didn’t know what happened to the victim. The last he saw her was hours earlier when she left to get cigarettes and he went to bed at 4:30 a.m.

As the versions didn’t match the victim was questioned further.

She said she did leave to go to a convenience store. When she returned the door was locked. She pushed in an air conditioner to gain entry, then went upstairs to where Vasquez was sleeping. He woke up and they walked outside together arguing about an incident that happened earlier at a bar. That’s when he struck her in the face, multiple times.

He locked her out again and she called out to the neighbors for help.
