Heffley to hold seminar on the spotted lanternfly

In response to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s decision to include Carbon County in its quarantine to help control the spread of the spotted lanternfly, state Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon, will host a seminar at his district office on the invasive species.

The seminar will be held in the first-floor auditorium of the Clyde R. Hauser Memorial Building (Lehighton Borough Annex), 110 N. Third St., at 6:30 p.m. May 16. The seminar is open to all residents of the 122nd Legislative District.

“The spotted lanternfly is an invasive species of insect that has the potential to devastate the livelihoods of those in the agricultural industry. Early projections estimate the insect could destroy $18 billion worth of agricultural commodities like apples, grapes and hardwoods,” Heffley said.

Master gardeners from Penn State Extension will provide information about the spotted lanternfly and answer questions.
