Carbon looks to fill summer work programs
Carbon County officials are looking for a few good college students, as well as two adults, for its summer work programs.
On Thursday, the county commissioners said that there are still six spots for lifeguards, two liquid fuel bridge crew supervisors and four bridge crew positions that need to be filled.
Supervisor positions, which pay $12 an hour for the 10-week job, must be an adult.
Duties include supervising a group of six college students on the bridge crews, going out with the crews and overseeing general maintenance around the county-owned bridges.
In addition, there are about four open positions on the bridge crew.
These positions are eligible to college-age students.
Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard also noted that Carbon County is in desperate need of lifeguards to operate Mauch Chunk Lake.
Currently, the county has four lifeguards and need about 10 to effectively oversee the lake.
Certified lifeguards are necessary and the position pays $10 an hour.
There are also a few office positions available for college students looking for a summer job, Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said.
The positions are available through the Workforce Investment Board.
To apply for the positions, contact Carbon County’s human resources department at 570-325-8523 or the commissioners’ office at 570-325-3611.
