Solar panels installed at Osprey House

It won’t be long before all of the operations at a wildlife sanctuary in Slatington are solar powered.
Work to install a total of 65 solar power panels on the Lehigh Gap Nature Center’s Osprey House got underway this week.
Lehigh Gap Nature Center Executive Director Dan Kunkle said the center received an $87,000 grant through the Green Mountain Energy Sun Club.
Kunkle said one of the center’s board members, Marilyn Jordan, heard about the grant program and pursued it.
Evoke Solar of Hellertown was in charge of installing the solar panels, which Kunkle said are designed to give the center 100 percent of its electricity.
“It’s more sustainable for the earth,” Kunkle said. “It’s eliminating the need to burn fossil fuels.”
Kunkle said generating electricity in this manner has long been a dream come true for the center.
“We need to set an example for the community,” he said. “It’s a viable way to produce your electricity.”
Kunkle added, “There will be displays, and we will incorporate it into our school programs.”
