Woman faces forgery charges

An Allentown woman faces charges after she forged a check last year and has ignored police attempts to speak with her.

Jamie Mongi of Bastian Lane faces charges of forgery, theft by unlawful taking and tampering with records.

According to Nesquehoning police, on April 27, 2017, a man reported that a check he wrote for $275 in October 2016 had been altered. The victim reported that the check had been deposited in the correct person’s account, but then when checking his statement in April, he noticed that the check had posted to his account again.

When looking at the check image in his account, the victim noticed that the check’s date had been altered and the mistake wasn’t caught by the bank so the check was cashed again.

The recipient of the check told police he believed Mongi, had deposited the check the first time for him.

Police found that Mongi altered the check and cashed it again. They contacted her for an interview in September, but she never showed for their meeting.

Several more attempts have been made to speak with Mongi, but in each case, Mongi didn’t show or call to reschedule the meeting with police.
