47 people win committee positions in Carbon
Forty-seven people were declared winners of Democratic and Republican committee positions when the Carbon County Board of Elections held its tiebreaking session on Friday in the election office on Susquehanna Street in Jim Thorpe.
The session was necessary because 122 people whose names were not on the primary election ballot were the recipients of one write-in vote each for the respective positions.
The Democratic Party has 12 winners declared. According to its bylaws, it elects one committeeman and one committeewoman in each of the 51 precincts.
The Republican Party had 35 winners declared. According to its bylaws, a designated number of committee members from each municipality are elected.
The winners in the races where ties existed are as follows:
Democrats
Franklin Township, Harrity District: Terry Whiteman and Erin Hill.
Jim Thorpe, Second Ward: Robert Schaninger.
Lehighton, Second Ward: Richard Everett Jr.
Mahoning Township, Mahoning District: Dominic Palumbo; and Packerton/Jamestown: Laura Carr.
Nesquehoning, East District: Michael Hall.
Palmerton, East District: Peter Iles; and West District: Randy Gursky.
Penn Forest Township, Southwest District: John Phillips and June Gaudreau.
Towamensing Township, South 1 District: Michael George.
Republicans
Beaver Meadows: James Leonard.
East Penn Township: William Schwab.
