Woman charged with endangering welfare of child
A Palmerton woman is scheduled to appear in court after endangering the welfare of her child.
Davinia Takacs, 31, of the 500 block of Mauch Chunk Road, faces the charge of endangering the welfare of children.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Shawn Leadbetter of the Palmerton Police Department:
Leadbetter was dispatched May 11 to area of the 500 block of Mauch Chunk Road for a report of a toddler wearing just a diaper walking in the middle of the roadway.
Leadbetter arrived on scene and spoke with two witnesses, one of whom had the toddler in her arms, stating that she was driving when she nearly struck the toddler as he ran out in the roadway from behind a parked car.
The other witness said that there is a woman who lives on the 500 block of Mauch Chunk Road who has five children.
Leadbetter said the boy had dark hair and was wearing just a white diaper and had dried nasal mucus under his nose, and dirty knees and feet consistent with it being outside for a lengthy period of time.
Leadbetter contacted the woman who was identified as Takacs. She confirmed the toddler was her son.
She said she was watching her five children inside her apartment when she “closed her eyes.”
Takacs said she was unaware the toddler was missing before the police officer knocked on her door and told her that her son was nearly struck by a vehicle.
Police said this is the second time she found her son walking in the roadway.
Takacs is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. June 27 before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
