Walnutport council debates action over sinkhole
A sinkhole along the main thoroughfare in Walnutport has caused borough officials to consider taking action.
Borough council debated the sinkhole at Main Street and North Canal Street at its workshop session Thursday.
Mayor Wayne Weidner said it was in the borough’s best interests to see what it could do legally as far as safety.
Borough officials have said the sinkhole has been an issue recently, and went as far as to consider closing Canal Street.
On Friday morning, borough officials reached out to state Sen. Mario Scavello’s office and said Canal Street will not be closed.
The sinkhole was packed with stone and covered with a steel plate.
Main Street is a state Department of Transportation road. North Canal Street is a borough road.
