Schuylkill County GOP appoints Newton to state committee

D. Matthew Newton has been appointed by Schuylkill GOP Chairman Brock Stein to replace Scott Thomas as a member of the Republican State Committee of Pennsylvania.

Newton, 35, is currently the vice president of pharmacy operations at Towne Drugs Inc. of Pottsville. He is a lifelong resident of Pottsville and graduate of Pottsville High School. Newton received his Doctor of Pharmacy from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.

Newton is also the current vice chairman of the Schuylkill Young Republicans and assistant coach of the Pottsville Crimson Tide Boys Soccer team. Professionally, he is a member of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association and National Community Pharmacists Association. He is a former director of the Pottsville Area Development Corp.

Scott Thomas resigned from the state committee on May 31, due to a work-related relocation to Florida.
