A crash in Waiker Township early Wednesday morning knocked out power to 500 customers. The crash occurred at 4:30 a.m. along Route 443 about a half mile west of Route 309. The driver of a Chevrolet Blazer lost control, entering the north berm  and snapped off a utility pole. The incident brought down  three  high power lines, one coming to rest atop the SUV. The West Penn and Walker townships fire companies responded, maintaining traffic control at the scene. State police at Frackville are investigating the incident. Power was restored after four hours.
