Country concerts
Heisler’s Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley is bringing back its series of free “Night in the Country Concerts.”
The events started on June 2 and will continue through Aug. 26.
The next concert will be from 6 to 9 p.m. June 23, featuring “Chase.”
Other concerts will be: July 7, 7 to 9 p.m., Fred Nebula; July 8, 6 to 8 p.m., Blue Mountain Buccaneers; July 14, 7 to 9 p.m., The New Individuals; July 15, 4 to 6 p.m., the Cressona Band; July 28, 6 to 9 p.m., KJ; July 29, 4 to 6 p.m., the Big Band; Aug. 12, 5 to 9 p.m., Ann Marie Calabrese; Aug. 19, 6 to 8 p.m., The New Individuals; Aug. 25, 6 to 9 p.m., Chase; Aug. 26, 6 to 9 p.m., Dave Evans.
The American Cancer Society’s Putt and Brew will be held at the dairy bar on July 28.
Bloodmobile
An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held in Tamaqua on June 6 at the Tamaqua YMCA. Hours will be from 1 to 6 p.m.
Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health is eligible to donate the “gift of life.”
Walk-ins are welcome, but to cut down or wait time, donors may schedule an appointment by calling 800-733-2767 or go online at www.redcrossblood.org.
The Y is located at 1201 E. Broad St.
Schuylkill Democrats
The Eastern Schuylkill Democratic Club met May 21 with guest speaker John Sienkiewicz of Safer Streets for Tamaqua’s Little Feet. The topic of discussion was the opioid crisis and the need for combating the problem on multiple fronts.
The group’s next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. June 25, at the Tamaqua Elks Lodge, Broad and Nescopec streets. Anyone planning to attend is reminded of the new traffic patterns and parking restrictions due to the Wabash Bridge project.
New members are always welcome. The group is open to residents from the eastern side of Schuylkill County, which includes the boroughs of Coaldale, McAdoo, New Ringgold and Tamaqua, as well as the townships of Rush, Schuylkill, Walker and West Penn.

Holiday baskets
The Outreach Team at Zion’s Lutheran Church is again planning to prepare and distribute food baskets to Tamaqua area families in need for July 4.
Currently, the team is accepting donations for the baskets, as wells as the names of families for distribution.

St. Peter’s Union
Sunday worship services in St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville are held at 9 a.m.
Also this Sunday will be the Sunday school classes’ trip to Knoebel’s Grove.
Next week’s activities include: Monday, church board meets at 6 p.m., softball games at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Friday, old-fashioned picnic from 4 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, old-fashioned picnic from noon to 7 p.m.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday’s 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Also on Sunday, Luther’s Angels will hold a fundraiser, before and after the worship service, for the ACS Relay For Life on June 23.
