A look back: June 16, 1951
Meet Mr. Fireman of Lansford.
He is John N. Terry, affectionately known to thousands as “Jing” Terry.
Due to illness, he was unable to participate in the planning and execution of the Four-County Convention to the extent customary of him. But his heart was in it, even when he was bedfast at home, and more recently in the hospital. The committee that planned the event had a little thought back in their minds all the time.
“We’ll do it the way Jing would want it,” one member said.
Mr. Terry is fire chief of the American Fire Company No. 1, which he joined in 1902 and became its assistant chief the following year. He was elected fire chief in 1939 after having been assistant to the chief for 37 years.
