Nine plea to drunken driving counts

Nine people entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence and related charges last week in Carbon County court.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the pleas from the following:

Timothy L. Conarty, 46, of Nesquehoning, was arrested on Nov. 17, 2017, along Fourth Street by Lehighton police. A test revealed a 0.14 blood alcohol content. He also pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was originally charged with 15 counts.

On the DUI charge Serfass sentenced him to serve 30 days to six months in prison, a fine of $750 and one-year license suspension. On the paraphernalia charge he was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the DUI charge. He must also perform 75 hours of community service.

He will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. on June 22 and serve it consecutive two-day weekends.

Michael Mangiamele, 42, of Lehighton, was arrested on Jan. 11 by Lehighton police along Route 443 in the area of the Sunoco service station. He refused a test.

Serfass sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and 25 hours of community service.

He will begin serving the jail term at 9 a.m. on July 1, two days, and July 8, one day.

Adam M. Semmel, 31, of Lehighton,was arrested on Feb. 19, 2017, along Second Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. He refused a test.

Sentencing was deferred so Semmel can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.

Scott A. Russell, 43, of Lehighton, was arrested on Oct. 29, 2017, by Lehighton police along Route 209. A test revealed a 0.09 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so Russell can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.

Christopher Todd Winkler, 36, of Whitehall, was arrested on Feb. 16 along Route 248 at Bowmanstown following a crash. A test revealed a 0.24 BAC.

Serfass sentenced him to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension and 25 hours of community service.

He was given credit for time spent in a inpatient rehabilitation program for the two days and paroled.

George Philip Galgocy, 62, of Palmerton, was arrested on April 8, 2017, along Delaware Avenue by Palmerton police. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC and the presence of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so Galgocy can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Donald Minnich, 55, of Lehighton, was arrested on Sept. 16, 2017, along Route 443 in Mahoning Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so Minnich can apply for placement in the county’s Intermediate Punishment program - house arrest.

Michael Jack Reider, 30, of Coplay, was arrested on Jan. 30 by Lehighton police along Second Street. He refused a test.

Sefass sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and 25 hours of community service.

He was given credit for 28 days spent in a rehab inpatient program and paroled.

Honey J. Walsh, 46, of Petrolia, Butler County, was arrested on Aug. 19, 2017, along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed a 0.08 BAC.

A first offense, she was placed on probation for six months and fined $300 and ordered to serve25 hours of community service.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
