Saturday matinee

Western Pocono Community will show family friendly movies. Movies will be shown in the Community Room of the library at 1 p.m. every Saturday. Popcorn and water are available for purchase. Children under 10 years must be accompanied by an adult.

SAL meeting

Sons of the American Legion will meet at 11 a.m. Sunday at the American Legion Post 927 home in Gilbert.

Hoagie fundraiser

A hoagie fundraiser is being held by the Southern Pocono Mission Connexion through Sunday. Payment is due when ordering. An order sheet is on the Welcome Center at Effort UMC.

Orders not paid for by Sunday will not be placed. Hoagies will be ready for pick up on July 19 at Effort UMC.

Ross Supervisors

The Ross Township supervisors meet the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ross Township Municipal Building, 250 Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.

Shawl ministry

Effort UMC’s prayer shawl ministry will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Chestnuthill meeting

The Chestnuthill Township board of supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. July 3, at the municipal building in Brodheadsville.

Holiday impact

Various offices will be closed on the Fourth of July, including Polk Township and other municipalities, church offices, etc. However, the Polk Township solid waste facilities will be open from 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on July 5 for Wednesday permit holders.

Legion meets

American Legion Post 927 will meet at 7:30 p.m. July 5, at the Post home in Gilbert.

Church anniversary

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, will celebrate its 50th anniversary on July 8.

The celebration begins with a special Mass at 11 a.m. with Bishop Bambera, a procession with the church statue of the Blessed Mother followed by a free picnic for all to enjoy.

Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs for the picnic.

OTOH leaders

Operation Touch of Home recently held its annual reorganization meeting to elect new officers.

That leadership is: Tammy Gower, president; Maria Bentzoni, vice president; Connie Strohl, treasurer; and Elsa Henn, secretary.

The board of directors includes: Istvan DeJesus, Melinda DeJesus, Maria Bentzoni, Joe Henn, Elsa Henn, Tammy Gower and Cindy Arntz.

OTOH will be at Vet Fest, honoring all who served, being held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 7 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 8 at Steel Stacks Art Quest Center, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem. Setup time will be at 11 a.m.

Riders meet

The American Legion Riders have their monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. July 8, at the American Legion Post 927, Route 209 and Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert.

The American Legion Riders contribute to veterans, the community, and enjoy riding.
