A look back: July 3, 1957
The Lansford Borough Council last night named Republican Joseph A. Bechtel of 529 E. Patterson St. to fill the unexpired term of James Parfitt, who resigned two weeks ago. William R. Williams, council president, was in charge of the session.
Parfitt’s term on the board expires this year. He was a candidate for the Republican nomination in the East Ward at the primary election but was defeated in his bid for re-election by John Krutsick.
Bechtel, a newcomer to the political ring, is employed by the Panther Valley Coal Company as a coal inspector.
