Country concerts

Heisler’s Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley brought back its series of free “Night in the Country Concerts,” which will continue through Aug. 26.

The next concert will be from 7 to 9 p.m. July 7, featuring Fred Nebula.

Other concerts will be: July 8, 6 to 8 p.m., Blue Mountain Buccaneers; July 14, 7 to 9 p.m., The New Individuals; July 15, 4 to 6 p.m., the Cressona Band; July 28, 6 to 9 p.m., KJ; July 29, 4 to 6 p.m., the Big Band; Aug. 12, 5 to 9 p.m., Ann Marie Calabrese; Aug. 19, 6 to 8 p.m., The New Individuals; Aug. 25, 6 to 9 p.m., Chase; Aug. 26, 6 to 9 p.m., Dave Evans.

The American Cancer Society’s Putt and Brew will be held at the dairy bar on July 28.

All events are free and open to the public.

Car show

The Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a series of free, informal car shows at Heisler’s Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley. Billed as “Sundae Drivers Park and Gawk, organizers say the events are meant to be fun, informal shows where car enthusiasts can spend time together swapping stories and enjoy good food.

The next get-together is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. on July 8.

Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met June 26 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 43 members in attendance. President Robert Neifert conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Summer’s Serene Serenade.”

Norma Lee Burke will serve as the group’s chaplain.

The annual picnic will be held on July 24 at St. Peter’s Grove in Locust Valley. Festivities will begin at noon and will include a Chinese auction.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville and is open to anyone 55 or older.

Bloodmobile

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held at The Tamaqua Salvation Army gym on July 11. Hours will be from 1 to 6 p.m.

Anyone 17 or older who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health is eligible to donate blood.

Walk-ins are welcome, but to save time, schedule an appointment at 800-733-2767 or www.redcrossblood.org.

The Salvation Army is located at 105 W. Broad St.

Soup social

The next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held on Saturday. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.

The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.

Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.

Bible study sessions are held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays; Hope in the Mountains NFG are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays; the board of trustees will meet at 7 p.m. on July 11.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Newsletter items are due by July 15.

St. Peter’s Union

The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday at St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville. The service will include a Joyous Noise Offering.

Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., called to care committee meets at 7 p.m., softball games at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. at West Penn Park; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.
