Mahoning man warns of PCH phone scam in the area

Published July 06. 2018 05:38AM

A Mahoning Township man has warned of a phone scam he believes is being perpetrated in the area.

According to Jim Oldt, his wife received a call at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from a man who identified himself as being from Publisher’s Clearing House.

Oldt said the man told his wife that she won $980,000, $5,000 a week for life; as well as a 2018 Land Rover.

“She was sobbing, carrying on,” Oldt said. “The guy introduced himself as being from PCH, and was congratulating her on winning.”

Oldt said the guy called back about a half-hour later and gave the names of people who would be arriving to their home.

“It’s supposed to be a surprise, a knock on your door,” he said. “Not a phone call.”

Oldt said his sister-in-law, who also resides in Mahoning, received a call from PCH telling her she won prizes as well.

He said the scam must be working this area, and he doesn’t want anyone to be tricked into making any contribution.
