Towamensing Township’s board of supervisors tabled a bid award for materials, oil and diesel at Thursday’s meeting.

Bids for PA-2A modified stone, AASHTO #1 stone, PennDOT Type 2 Anti-Skid and 19 mm Superpave Binder Course, along with low sulfur diesel and No. 2 heating oil, were opened during the meeting.

Lehigh Asphalt Paving and Construction bid $16,200 for 1,000 tons of modified stone, $5,460 for 300 tons of #1 stone, $10,500 for 600 tons of anti-skid and $65,000 for 1,000 tons of binder course, for a total of $97,160.

PAPCO bid $42,486.75 for 15,000 gallons of low sulfur diesel and $5,690.40 for 2,000 gallons of No. 2 heating oil for a total of $48,177.15. PAPCO’s bid cited that prices were based off Scranton’s Oil Price Information Service rack average for a July 2 delivery, plus a firm differential of $0.5437.

After secretary Brenda Drew read the bids, Supervisor Guy Seifert motioned to table the award to allow further review by the township engineer and solicitor. Seifert and Supervisor Tom Newman both voted in favor of the motion, which will also allow Supervisors’ Chairman Penny Kleintop, who was absent from the meeting, to review the bids.

The Historical Commission is currently requesting volunteers to help prepare a mass mailing intended for the owners of historical properties in the township. The commission plans to meet at the township building at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 to fill and address envelopes.

Newman also requested that the Historical Commission provide a description of the work that needs to be done at the Greenzweig School, along with a list of supplies that the commission has and needs, and an estimate on how many volunteers will help with the restoration project.

Newman asked that the information be provided to the supervisors within two weeks, with hopes that a carpenter could resume working on the project in the early fall.
