Improvements slated for Lehighton’s upper park
Lehighton’s upper park is set to receive a face-lift.
On a 6-0 vote, with Councilman Joe Flickinger absent, borough council recently granted approval of the $200,000 Department of Community and Economic Development Multimodal Grant Contract for the upper park pedestrian improvements.
The improvements pertain to perimeter sidewalk/reconstruction and street lighting. It calls for streetscape and pedestrian improvements to the streets around the park.
Council also granted approval of the $150,000 DCED Greenways, Trails and Recreation Grant Contract for the Upper Park Amphitheater.
That grant will be used for ADA-accessible seating, and correcting stormwater drainage issues at the amphitheater.
In November, the borough received $350,000 in funding from the Commonwealth Financing Authority for improvements to the park under the Act 13 Grant Program.
