A church in the West End was destroyed after a fire broke out early this morning in Chestnuthill Township.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. at the Full Gospel Tabernacle Bread of Life Church at 3078 Route 115 (corner of Mountain Laurel Drive) in Effort.

West End Fire Company Deputy Chief Bob Geyer said the fire appeared to have started somewhere in the back of the structure and spread to the roof.

“It was fully involved when we got there,” Geyer said.

Geyer said no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is unknown, he said, adding that a fire marshal has been contacted.

“We didn’t see anything suspicious,” Geyer said.

He said firefighters were on scene for about three hours.

Also assisting at the scene were the Polk Township Fire Company, Jackson Township Fire Company, Tunkhannock Township Fire Company, Blue Ridge Fire Company and West End Ambulance.
