Walnutport continues work on traffic signal

Published July 10. 2018 12:41PM

Walnutport has taken the next step before it can bid out a project for the main traffic signal at the busiest intersection in the borough.

Borough council on Thursday adopted a resolution to submit the EMS pre-emption application for improvements to the traffic light at Best Avenue and Main Street.

The resolution was adopted so that council can submit the permit for the traffic pre-emption to promote safe passage through the intersection.

Council revised the drawings per the state Department of Transportation’s review and prepared the EMS pre-emption application.

The borough submitted the revised traffic signal condition diagram to PennDOT in May. In turn, PennDOT replied with comments.

The project specifications are nearly complete, and once PennDOT approves, the borough can advertise for bids.

In May, council agreed to have council President Bill Turk sign the new condition diagram when ready for submission to PennDOT.

Borough grant coordinator Michael Wentz said in May that the borough was previously awarded a $25,000 Green Light — GO program 50/50 matching grant.

As part of the project, the light will receive new light heads, a new controller and control box and emergency pre-emption.
