Car bursts into flames in L. Towamensing

State police at Lehighton said a Palmerton woman got out of her vehicle after observing smoke coming from the air conditioning vents of the car, after which time the engine compartment became engulfed in flames.

Police said Christina M. Hartman, 51, was traveling north on Hemlock Street, near Dairy Road, in Lower Towamensing Township. She stopped her 2008 Dodge Avenger in the middle of the road and got out before it became engulfed in flames. The local fire department was dispatched to extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported at the scene.
