A 4-year-old boy was transported to a local hospital awake and alert after being rescued from Lehighton Pool on Monday afternoon.

Crews were called to Baer Memorial Pool at 1:55 p.m. for a reported drowning. However a few minutes later, dispatchers said that the child was awake after someone performed CPR.

Pool Manager Tom Evans declined to comment.

Lehighton Borough Manager Nicole Beckett was at the pool following the incident but said she did not witness it.

Beckett said the boy was transported to a hospital, but he was fine when he left the pool.

Beckett said this morning that the child was released from the hospital Tuesday morning.

“We are extremely grateful to our lifeguard staff, pool director, emergency medical personnel and good Samaritans for their training and quick actions that saved a young life.”
