Rig hits pothole, driver is injured
The driver of a tractor trailer was injured after his rig struck a pothole on Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township at 6:45 a.m. July 3.
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said John S. Scott Jr., 35, of Prospect Park, was hurt but did not require a medical transport. The severity of his injuries is unknown, police said.
Police said he was driving a 2016 Peterbilt tractor trailer westbound when he attempted to make a lane change because another rig, operated by Torrionn Edwards, 42, of Fontana, California, was parked on the right shoulder of the interstate. In making the lane change, police said Scott’s rig struck a pothole and went out of control, striking the left rear of the parked tractor trailer. Police said Scott’s vehicle traveled across both lanes and struck a guide rail on the left side of the road.
Police said Scott was cited for careless driving and Torrionn was cited for required financial responsibilities.
