Commissioners praise 2017 Schuylkill fair royalty

With the 2018 Schuylkill County Fair opening Monday, county commissioners bade farewell to last year’s royalty.

Fair Queen Emily Witmier and Princess Haley Rymarkiewicz did an outstanding job representing the county, commissioners said.

“The way you have represented Schuylkill County is exemplary,” said Commissioners’ Chairman George F. Halcovage Jr.

“Cherish every moment of this. This is a defining moment on your lifetimes,” said Commissioner Frank J. Staudenmeier.

“You have been great ambassadors over this past year, promoting Schuylkill County, the Schuylkill County Fair, and our number one industry, which is agriculture,” Commissioner Gary J. Hess said.

The 35th annual fair, on Route 895, Summit Station, runs from July 30 through Aug. 4.

The fair entrance fee is $5; truck and tractor pulls admission is also $5.

Children up to 10 years old enter free. Parking is also free.

The gate opens at 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and at 11 a.m. Tuesday and Saturday.

Every day includes rides, food, contests, music, displays and farm animals.

Monday features truck pulls and the 2018 royalty crowning.

Tuesday is Kids’ Day, with a pedal tractor pull, presentations by Folk Butterfly Farm, and tractor pulls.

Wednesday is Schuylkill County Day, with an adult milk chugging and pie eating contest, a celebrity tractor pull, and drag racing.

Thursday brings Dairy Day, with a 4-H/Future Farmers of America livestock auction, and Elvis tribute artist Shawn Klush.

Friday is Country Day, with a Frenzy at the Fair wrestling tournament, line dancing, and music by Joe Diffie.

Saturday is Family Fun Day, with an antique tractor pull, a Princess Parade, and music by Jay & the Americans.
