Prothonotary's report

A total of 527 cases were started in June in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder.

A breakdown of cases is as follows:

Assessment appeals, 1; civil actions, 31; custody complaints, 23; complaints to modify custody, 11; district justice appeals, 6; divorce complaints, 17; complaints in ejectment, 7; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 31; name change petition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 22; PFSVI (sexual violent individual), 1; complaint in replevin, 1; judgments, 342; miscellaneous cases, 3; stipulations/waivers of liens, 3; and writs of executions, 27. The office also processed 172 applications fort U.S. passports and provided assistance in the processing of 30 passport renewal applications.

Behrens' financial report for May shows $42,676.34 last month was generated as follows:

Prothonotary's fees, $35,276.23; interest income, $2.34; custody fees, $650; data processing fees, $6,657.77; PFA surcharge, courts, $30; PFA surcharge, Sheriff, $60; and remote access fees, $600.

The prothonotary also remitted $4,502.43 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $64 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,925.50 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
