A look back: Aug. 7, 1964
Carbon County’s $340,000 new airport is near completion.
Jacob Arner of Lehighton, chairman of the Carbon County Airport Authority, stated this morning the airport is nearing completion and will soon be ready for use.
The airport, which is being built in Mahoning Valley, was started Nov. 11, 1963. The airstrip runway parking area taxi way and all other areas requiring blacktopping have been completed.
Although nearly complete, court litigation may hold up the airport’s use since the Mahoning Valley Supervisors have an equity action filed against the airport authority objecting to the site. The case before Judge Albert H. Heimbach is still open.
