Man is cited after his dog attacks woman
An Albrightsville man was cited after his dog attacked a Nesquehoning woman.
According to Nesquehoning police, on July 23 a woman who was bleeding from the face and arm arrived at the police station to report a dog attack.
Patrolman Timothy Wuttke spoke to the victim, who was frantic and saying she was sick of her neighbor and their dogs on the unit block of East Railroad Street.
Wuttke said the victim was bleeding from the right side of her face and had blood on her left hand.
When asked what had happened, the victim said she let her dog out to go to the bathroom and the dog from the home across the street charged her dog.
During the attack, she kicked the dog in an attempt to save her pet but was bit twice before the neighbor came out and got the dog.
The victim told Wuttke that there were several dogs from that home that are always out without a leash and people coming in and out of the home doing suspected drug activity.
Officers went to the home to speak with the dog’s owner. The resident said that the dog used to be hers but she gave it to her son, who then gave it to a friend, later identified as Dreden Parkes. Parkes, the resident reported, was visiting with the dog the past few days.
Parkes told police that he took ownership of the 4-month-old dog on July 22. The dog, Parkes said, was not licensed or vaccinated.
Police told Parkes that he would be responsible for the victim’s medical bills and that the dog must be quarantined for 10 days.
The victim took her dog to the vet to get checked and also went to St. Luke’s Miners Campus to get checked for her injuries.
Parkes was cited for dog laws and bites for the incident; as well as not having his dog licensed or vaccinated.
In addition, he is responsible for $135 in out-of-pocket expenses for the victim’s dog’s vet visit.
