Man faces charges in 2 more assaults

A Lehighton man already in jail faces additional charges for assaulting his girlfriend.

Cory Hunsicker, 41, faces charges on two counts of aggravated assault, and one count of unlawful restraint/serious bodily injury, simple assault, and harassment/subject other to physical contact.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer James Danner of the Mahoning Township Police Department:

At 11:18 p.m. July 28, Danner was dispatched to the 800 block of North First Street for two people fighting on the caller’s front porch.

Danner saw a woman seated on the caller’s front porch with apparent injuries to her face.

The woman was hysterical and explained that she was assaulted somewhere down the road.

She didn’t provide Danner with details at the scene and she was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital.

On Aug. 5, police responded to meet with an assault victim who walked to the Dollar General on North First Street. The victim was transported by ambulance for treatment of injuries. The assault occurred in the 800 block of North First Street.

She said that she had been assaulted by Hunsicker.

The victim said Hunsicker also assaulted her on July 28. She told police that Hunsicker struck her with a baseball bat all over her body while questioning her about who picked her up from jail.

The victim said Hunsicker refused to believe her and continued hitting her with the bat.

She said she was kicked in her legs, stomach, back and face.

At one point, she said Hunsicker picked up a roller skate and began smashing it over her head.

The victim said Hunsicker would not allow her to leave.

She said that after about an hour, Hunsicker “let her up” and told her to get a shower, but ordered her to keep the bathroom door open.

The victim said that she did as told, and when she was done with her shower, she had an opportunity to run out of the home and to a neighbor’s house, where the police and ambulance were called.

The victim was later transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Unit.

At around 4 p.m. Aug. 9, Danner interviewed Hunsicker at the Carbon County Correctional Facility.

He was read his Miranda rights, which he waived, and agreed to speak with Danner.

Danner explained to Hunsicker that he was there to speak with him regarding recent physical altercations between Hunsicker and the victim.

Hunsicker asked which ones Danner was referring to and said that he and the victim fight physically almost daily.

Hunsicker acknowledged that he and the victim had gotten into a physical altercation around the date in question, but thought it was more around Aug. 1 or Aug. 2.

Hunsicker said during the incident in question, he and the victim were hitting each other, but denied using a baseball bat during the incident.

Hunsicker recalled the victim running from the home, “causing a scene as usual,” and was told she was “transported to Lehigh Valley.”

Hunsicker is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 straight bail on one charge and $10,000 straight bail on the other charge.

Hunsicker is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 4:25 p.m. Aug. 22 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
